Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - Country Breakfast with home fries and Cavallo Special (rib-eye steak with 2 eggs) with hash browns. The country fried steak was overcooked and extremely salty and the extra salt from the gravy didn't help it much. The rib-eye steak was decent but slightly on the overcooked side for our liking. The home fries seemed to be some type of roasted potatoes so was quite confused since we were expecting fries. The packaging wasn't done well so the whole bag was oily including the utensils, biscuits, and toast. Service: 4/5 - busy restaurant and they seemed annoyed that we didn't immediately know where to order or what the items were.Waited about 25 minutes for our food to be made. Ambiance: n/a - ordered food to go.Older restaurant but seems clean overall Value for price: 3/5 - such a busy and popular store for mediocre food unfortunately.
Not a euphemism, I would not serve this “food” to my dog. It’s inedible, old, congealed, and bland. My husband asked the manager to take my food off and she refused and was dismissive. There is a notice in the menu from the owner about wanting to make sure every customer has a good experience. The food and lack of cleanliness turned my stomach. The wait for the cold, disgusting food was excessive, the manager was dismissive, and the food was overpriced. When we shared my displeasure with my meal we were rudely dismissed. No one should ever step food in this rat’s nest because they will be charged for a massive disappointment. The little bit that I ate made me so nauseated. The manager stated that they fry the food 3 times per day and reheat it to order which would explain how it was somehow dry, cold, and greasy. Not to mention that’s prime for growing bacteria. If the front of the house that dinghy and gross I can only imagine what the kitchen is like. The only positive is how nice our server was.
A Memphis institution!! This place will be here for your grandkids to enjoy. My family has been coming to the Cupboard since the 70s or 80s when it was located further East on Union Avenue. I met some friends here for a business lunch yesterday and was again impressed by the place.Seated immediately, the decor has a down home feel and atmosphere. You’re gonna feel comfortable I assure you. I had the standard daily meat and three special with blackened catfish, pinto beans, corn pudding, and Italian spinach.Son, when I tell you it was good, you just don’t know unless you’ve been here.Fish cooked just right with spices and fresh-squeezed lemon juice.Italian spinach cooked perfect with zesty Parmesan cheese. Corn pudding like your grandmother used to make. And pinto beans with incredible seasoning. The waitress was super nice and serves our food quickly. She kept our glasses full as well, which I appreciated. They know how to take care of you here, and don’t skip the jarred yummies near the door.Wow they look awesome.
