Dinner here was great. We started with the wood-fried oysters. At first the oysters themselves seemed a bit disappointing but the flavour is all in that garlic butter sauce for which they provide bread for soaking that all in.The bread itself was amazing, soft and warm like a type of Hawaiian roll. For the mains, we tried the smoked porterhouse pork chop (they ran out of the double) and the "Cochon".The pork chop was nicely smoked, rich with flavour. The Cochon was a bit disappointing as the meat was dry and the green beans were a bit bland for our taste.Thankfully, the pickled pear saved the dish but there was not near enough of it to compliment the meat.If the meat were a bit juicier and the side was maybe a cheesy grits with more pickled pear on top, it may be a winner.I was thankful we got the creamy grits on the side as it paired well with these meaty dishes. To end, we tried the pineapple upside down cake with ice cream. This dessert was perfectly balanced..warm cake almost bread pudding-like with the ice cream...not too sweet with the slightly tart pineapple. It was a real treat. Overall the dinner and service were great.Cochon seems like a gem in the NOLA area.
I had a wonderful experience at Cochon, a restaurant that serves authentic Cajun and Southern dishes with locally sourced ingredients. The food was delicious, fresh, and flavorful, and the service was friendly and attentive. I started with the gator meat, which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the spices were out of this world. For the main course, I ordered the Smoked ribs, which was a generous portion of tender and juicy meat with braised baked potatoes. The ribs were cooked to perfection and the sides complemented it well. I had no room for dessert but from what I saw and heard, I missed something heavenly. I highly recommend Cochon to anyone who loves Cajun and Southern cuisine, or who wants to try something new and exciting. The restaurant has a cozy and rustic atmosphere, and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.Cochon is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans, and I can’t wait to go back.
Our Uber driver said it was his favorite place to take his wife for day night so I took mine.We got to sit at the chefs table right at the pass of the kitchen and the show they put on was amazing. The fried gator was meaty and lightly breaded with a tasty sauce. The arugula salad was awesome and had a surprise of mint leaves to give it an effervescent flavor. The rabbit and dumplings had a turnip base for the gravy which gave it a unique taste that was warm and inviting.Service was good.Food was great. The teamwork displayed by the kitchen was energizing.
