This was an interesting experience to say the least. We arrived right at opening and was quickly seated. Our server had a great attitude but was very talkative….and I mean very! He gave us an overview of the menu and that literally turned into 30 minutes. It was unreal! We started with the BBQ Oysters…delicious!! I’d go back for those alone. The crab cake was pretty good too, but we should have stopped there. We decided to split the Wood Grilled Redfish and they were nice enough to plate it separately for us.It was bland and a letdown unfortunately.Lastly, we split the Double Chocolate Bread Pudding. It was confusing and not good at all.I’m a huge fan of some of Ralph Brennan’s other restaurants so this experience was disappointing to me.
Red Fish Grill, located in the vibrant French Quarter of New Orleans, presents a dining experience that offers a glimpse into the culinary diversity of the area, albeit with mixed results. The food secures a solid 3 out of 5, offering dishes that are enjoyable and indicative of local flavors but lacking the wow factor that might elevate them to memorable status. On the service front, the restaurant scores a less impressive 2 out of 5.While seating is promptly managed, reflecting an efficient start, the service falters as the meal progresses.Simple necessities, like obtaining the correct silverware, often require a gentle reminder, hinting at a disconnect in the service’s flow. The atmosphere holds steady at a casual 3 out of 5, fitting perfectly with the laid-back ethos of its surroundings. This informality is a double-edged sword, contributing to the relaxed ambiance while also mirroring the slower, sometimes inconsistent, service. In essence, Red Fish Grill has the components for a pleasant dining experience, with its atmosphere and quick seating. However, the overall satisfaction is hampered by service missteps and culinary offerings that, while good, don’t quite manage to leave a lasting impression.Improvements in service attentiveness and culinary execution could potentially elevate Red Fish Grill to fully realize its promise.
We stopped here while visiting New Orleans and we were kind of disappointed. The menu looked better than what we ended up ordering. The waitresses were having trouble communicating who was covering our table. We don't want to discourage you from trying this place out but we personally would not return due to the underwhelming flavors and the disorganized staff. The ice cream was good though...but it's hard to mess that up.
