Went on a sunny lovely day…seats provided quickly but waited forever to have some come and ask for orders….lovely ambiance both inside and out….food is okay…portions small and menu has some good items. The location is good and plants and people lovely…must visit once vibes…
It was a rainy Friday afternoon. We were in the mood for some Mexican food.Had decided to give this place a chance.Upon arrival the place was slammed, we were greeted by what appeared to be the owner. He helped us get seats at the bar. The menu had plenty of options. We were given water and chips and salsa quickly. But were waiting for a long time to get our order in.The place seemed to be understaffed and rather than help customers waiting for orders the owner/chef was chatting up customers. The bartender and servers seemed slammed. The food was decent, but definitely not authentic. It was seafood/southern imitating to be texmex. I would come back to give them another chance.
I just relocated back to NC and Cantina 18 was on the top of my list of the places I wanted to eat. 18 years later and Raleigh doesn’t disappoint. Neither does chef Jason Smith. I have been a fan of his menus since the 18 Seaboard days(almost 20yrs ago). I had the Fried Green Tomatoes for lunch. I’ve tried them many times at other places throughout the country & always a soggy disappointment. These were so crispy and delicious.I can’t wait to come back again. It’s good to be home!
