The Joy Luck- East End was somewhat of a disappointment. The service was just so-so, and the food was just that too, so-so.The pours of wine were nothing to write home about either. We started out with steamed pork dumplings. They were okay, but several arrived cold.My wife ordered the Mushu which showed up with garlic, a brown sauce, egg, mushrooms, cabbage, bamboo, sliced carrots, and two types of onions, white/green.An order of brown rice accompanied the Mushu. She liked it and even asked for a to-go box.Doing that is a plus in our family for a restaurant. I ordered the Bourbon Chicken with a side of Lo Mein. The chicken was accompanied by an almost honeymoon salad, lettuce alone. There were very small strips of carrots, but a tasty ginger dressing. There was, as you can see by the photo, just little more than a cup of chicken. The Bourbon sauce was good, but the chicken was chewy. We will most likely not be dining here again. What really topped off our dining experience was when we were presented with the check on their handheld POS device offering tip suggestions starting at 20% and going up from there.Tipping is getting out of hand everywhere nowadays.I selected “custom” and left a 15% tip which was more than adequate for the service/food we received. If you choose to dine here, I hope your experience is better than what ours was.
The restaurant was not as clean as I would expect. The service was good but the food was average.I had ordered a lamb dish and had quite a bit of gristle. There was a bit too much cumin and the veggies were overcooked. It seems the quality and aesthetics has deteriorated in the past couple of years.
My daughter and I went here on Saturday April 6, 2024.We were the only patrons. Our waitress was quite rude.No welcome, just seated us.My daughter ordered seltzer water and the waitress didn’t know what that was.(They have a full bar.) No lemon or lime.(Again- full bar.) We decided to leave, and when we told her, she responded, “Byyyyye!” from across the room.
