Canât appreciate this place more! Every time I yearn for Mediterranean food Sumac has been my place.Home away from home. The food I eat reminds the food my grandma used to make back home in the Mediterranean. They are always adding more top-notch items on their menu.I tried most of the items on the menu, I even catered food for some of the events I organized; go for it you will never be disappointed!!!
Was headed home from SF and knew that I was gonna sit in a ton of traffic and probably get hungry. So I wanted something kinda quick and not insanely expensive. This place đ¤đź.Its a pick up window only, but you could easily walk down the hill and chill if the weather was nice. I got a half chicken bowl/half salad, w/ grilled veggies, paprika aioli sauce and sumac labne sauce. It came to $23, which I was like dang SF is expensive.Buuuut then I picked it up, and that bag was HEAVY.It was definitely enough to feed 2 people.Probably 3 meals for me.It was đĽ The veggies were all fresh, no sketchy weird chicken pieces.I had no idea what the sauces were but aioli is like garlicky Smokey vegan mayo (recommend), the sumac labne is like plain Greek yogurt with black pepper and a little beet juice (kinda bland, would try the herb labne next time instead).TRY THIS PLACE 𤤠-Picture is of Alcatraz Island, Sumac is on the corner of street, (in front of that black SUV for reference).
One of the best smells in the city is walking past this small to-go shop. The kofte bowl comes with five meatballs, rice and a delightful chickpea side dish.I really enjoy the collard soup from âsoupchuâ, the sister restaurant living in the same place.Their variety of dips and sauces (hummus, cacik, muhammara) are quite flavorful, ranging from creamy to sweet and sharp. The prices are as steep as the hill the restaurant is on top of, though they arenât unheard of in this area. The issue with this place is that they regularly forget stuff or donât communicate when they run out of things. One time, we ordered (paid for) extra pink sauce and it didnât come in the stapled bag.Another time, they didnât include utensils like they usually do.Last time, they didnât give us the acme bread that came with our soups.Hope they iron that out at some point.
