I LOVED this spot so, so much! We went twice within 24 hours because that’s how much we loved it. It is a family restaurant, so there’s only a few people working at any given time.
The two times I went, the owner was there, cooking and talking to us.
He’s amazing, and all the other employees were really kind and hospitable. The food is 10/10, no matter what you order.
We had the oxtail, jerk chicken, and shrimp multiple times.
The rice and beans is phenomenal, and the mac and cheese is definitely the best in the area. I’ll be back anytime I’m in the area!

WOW!!! Where do I begin? This food is amazing.
It’s about as authentic Jamaican as you can get in this area.
I’m staying at a hotel that is walking distance from this place, and I’m planning to visit the restaurant again before leaving town.
The restroom is clean and well maintained.
The dining area is also clean.
And the food is fresh and seasoned to perfection.
We had the jerk chicken with rice and peas and cabbage.
I also had a beef patty.
The gravy was *chef’s kiss*, and the entire meal was incredible.
Considering the amount of food I had, it was WELL WORTH the price (which was quite reasonable).
In short, I highly recommend this restaurant.
The staff is really kind as well.

We were In downtown Birmingham for a doctor’s appointment and were looking for a late lunch afterwards! Spice of Life Jamaica Restaurant is what we decided on! Parking is a little difficult to find but we found street parking near the library.
We ordered the jerk chicken with Rice & Beans and Mac & Cheese and the blackened shrimp with Rice & Beans and Mac & Cheese! Both were really good! They cooked the blackened shrimp in real time so that took around 10 mins but the remaining food was ready almost instantly! I would definitely go back! The food was good and the restaurant was pretty fast - good for a lunch break!
