Soul food restaurant, Barbecue restaurant
Decided to support the restaurants that were participating in black restaurant week in Denver.Chose this placeā¦we were aware that the place closed at 8:30.We walked in at 8:05, we were not greeted or even acknowledged. My partner told me he was going to give it a few more minutes before saying anything. We were not aware who the owner was, the whole time after finding out who he was he walked passed us plenty times like we were invisible. Finally after 15 minutes, the owner walks up to our table and blurts out āmy kitchen is almost closedāā¦.usually that comes along with āall I have available tonight is x, y and z so Iāll do my best to accommodate you allāā¦No! He had an attitude and was very short with us.I asked āok what do you have available?ā He just kept repeating āmy kitchen is almost closedā..put some menus in front of us and walked away.We didnāt even get offered or asked for a drink while we waited.Me and my partner hurried up and picked something, we again waited another 15 minutes for him to even come back. Here we are again with this whole tug of war āmy kitchen is closingāā¦..āwhat do you have availableā discussion. Finally, I tell him..I canāt eat pork or seafood so whatever you have available outside of that.He says āsmoked wingsā ā¦at this point Iām over it so I say āsureā..cause heās really not even asking heās telling. He asks what side I want.Iām almost afraid to ask, so I pick the most simplest of things āFrench friesāā¦he says I can do that. Then tries to apologize for being short with us but even his apology came out rushed Took another 20 minutes.Came to the table and said āIām ready to ring yāall upā, not even asking if we wanted to dine in..but I get it because we waited so long it was past closed. He offered to bag our food, we get home after starving. My partners said his catfish was good.My smoked wings were bad, no flavor, burnt, not even edible plus the wings had hair which let me know they werenāt cleaned properly. The cornbread was dry and burnt, the potato salad was bland. The French fries were soggy.I am sick today because of that experience.I will never return or suggest this place to anyone!
Iām from Louisiana still fairly new to Denver! My hubby and I went here Sunday night as part of our wedding anniversary weekend celebration. We found the restaurant as a local, close proximity restaurant to the museum.THE FOOD, THE OWNER AND STAFF WAS AMAZINGGGG! The atmosphere felt like I was back home! If you want real southern cooked food, this is the spot! The catfish, the collard greens, the potato salad and more! Jesus, it was soooo good! They give you a lot of food and the price is great! Mr.Ty the owner was so nice and engaging with all the customers! Put it this way, itās after midnight and I got up to eat some of the food, again! š¤£ My hubby said heāll leave his own review! Heās eating again right now too! LOL! We are both excited that we found this little hang out! Theyāll be seeing plenty of us! So stop over and tell him the Lawsonās sent you!
Stop by for dinner after a workout towards the end of the service and met some awesome people. The owner Ty was the one that took care of us and didnāt rush us out after it was past closing time. We had ribs, catfish, and wings. The wings were some of the best Ive ever had and highly recommend ordering them.Didnāt not enjoy the ribs as much however the catfish was cooked perfectly! Would definitely comeback again and try the other items on the menu.
