Mexican restaurant
*New Place* atmosphere was Sharp, unique, & spectacular lighting! I'm not one for dim lit restaurants where I can't see my food or read the menu without turning my phone light on! All the different lights were really cool! I also don't ever order fajitas at Mexican restaurants, but I got the steak with housemade corn tortillas and they were absolutely scrumptious 😋! We also got shrimp (spouse got flour tortillas) and shared the meats, was very tasty! We ordered an appetizer queso and we got complimentary homemade chips & salsa! Our server, Madeline was attentive and always confirmed my dishes were gluten-free with their chief.Restaurant has only been open a bit over a month, very clean, tidy, and welcoming! We will be back to try different items as so many looked good! Highly recommend this place!
Ancho & Agava may be the best Mexican restaurant in town. The drinks are delicious, and the food is amazing!!! The house chips and salsa are a perfect started and their chips are super crispy and warm. The Traditional Queso is probably my favorite in town. My wife had the March Special - Cubano Torta, and it was full of flavor.I had 3 different tacos, Fried Fish, Nashville Chicken and Porkbelly. Each had its own unique flavor profile, and there wasn’t a single crumb left in my plate. The restaurant has a great vibe, great patio area and has become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Omaha.Would highly recommend!!!
TDLR: Fantastic flavors, poor execution of food, understaffed, inconsistent service. Very frustrating to walk into a restaurant and see numerous tables with no settings and no intention of using (presumably due to staffing) and be told it's a 50 min wait for a table. Asked about up at the bar, told it was fcfs...I see an opening...then only to have the bartender appear with "reserved" signs at that spot. Not a good start. Apps: Salsa trio and chips were wonderful. Salsas were extremely flavorful and unique with good hearty, crispy chips. -Also tried the "ceviche", good flavors but the shrimp were very poorly cleaned and we were picking off legs and shells on every single shrimp. Drinks: had the jalapeno and the raspberry -lime margarita. Both were overly sweet. We were originally considering diy to-go margs, but that quickly changed. Mains: - Steak and chicken bowl was a big miss. Nowhere in the menu does it state the bowl comes with lettuce and it looked more like a salad than a bowl with just a scoop of rice buried under poorly picked lettuce with cores still attached.Steak and chicken both seasoned wonderfully, but both were very overcooked and dry. -Ahi Taco: HUGE hit, 100% would order 5 more, well executed and flavorful. - seafood enchiladas: delicious tomato sauce, but shrimp overcooked and rice was dry inside. Server was great, but as expected, overworked. Might have been an off night, but lots of execution errors that make me think the kitchen has been getting too lax on their expectations.
