Wah Jee Wah: A Casual Outdoor BBQ Experience The Hype Wah Jee Wah came highly recommended, so I ventured out to see what all the buzz was about. The set-up is simple - outdoor seating only - which creates a casual and relaxed atmosphere. First Impressions The prices were very reasonable, making it an affordable option for a quick bite.We started with drinks - the Mango Lassi was decent, but the Masala Lime was the clear winner.Refreshing and flavorful, it was a perfect way to kick off the meal. The Star of the Show Our favorite dish by far was the Chole Bhature. While a bit oily, the flavor was fantastic.Be warned, it's a hearty portion, so come hungry! Skewers: A Mixed Bag We opted for the 1/2 Big Boy platter with 5 skewers. The chicken was undeniably tender, but lacked a bit of punch in the flavor department. The paneer tikka and lamb skewers were decent, but didn't leave a lasting impression. Butter Chicken: Not Quite There We also tried the Butter Chicken dish, which was just okay. It wasn't bad, but we've had better versions elsewhere. The Verdict Wah Jee Wah is a solid option for a casual outdoor meal. The prices are friendly and the Chole Bhature is a must-try. While the skewers were a bit of a mixed bag, the chicken was undeniably tender. If you're looking for an explosion of flavor in every bite, this might not be your top choice. However, it's definitely worth a try, especially if you're in the mood for something affordable and unpretentious.
We were a tad bit disappointed with the skewers! Our thought of an Indian tandoor/grill restaurant is one that has decent masala flavors in the marination. The paneer skewer had no flavor and wasn’t well cooked and hard to chew. The chicken was much better but as it’s open grill, the outside gets burnt and inside was dry.Overall lack of flavors that we were anticipating. Masala fries was no good, the peanut masala tasted good and is the North Indian style, not fried.Chola Bhatura probably was our pick among the options we tried. It was flavorful.Staff is great and we didn’t have any problems finding parking or a table outside.
Update: the last time we visited, the quality was very inconsistent, chicken was not well cooked, rice was stale, the bhatura was oily and not crunchy.I don’t know if this was an anomalous service, but little disappointing. Excellent food and very different and unique atmosphere. We ordered Chaana with bhature, along with three kebabs (chicken breast, chicken leg and paneer). All of them were exceptionally prepared and tasted very fresh.Altogether , highly recommended if you in the Hayward area.
