I almost never write negative reviews, but had such a bad experience that I feel like I should warn others. Ordered a chicken sandwich - turns out it was raw inside. If that wasn’t bad enough, when I told the owner(?), he instead seemed more upset that he had to take it off the bill even though I’d already eaten half of it.He just shook his head, took the plate back to the kitchen, and didn’t offer any sort of substitution or acknowledgment. We waited around for another 30 minutes wondering if they’d come back and offer an explaination / apology.Ended up watching my friend finish his meal while I sat hungry, wondering if I would get food poisoning. I’m bummed since this is so close to our place and seems like a great neighborhood restaurant, but am extremely disappointed at the lack of food safety (and accountability!) - I eat out most days and this is the first time I’ve been served raw chicken.

I am sorry this happened to you.I didn’t offer you anything instead because it looks like you were visibly turned off. Moreover I indicated that I would take it off your bill. Thank you for your feedback though this type of thing rarely happens.
This legendary cafe was there on Castro back in the 90s, and unlike many businesses which have disappeared, is thankfully still there! Sassy waitresses work hard to serve the breakfasts from the large menu and all is good value.
Owner response
Thanks for your great review. We actually started in 1971 and still have a few loyal customers from that time period. We still have two waiters from the 1980s still working.
So good! We had a club sandwich and pastrami sandwich, both of them excellent. The waitress was very very nice, always smiling and very kind.Thank you!
