We lived in San Antonio for four years back in the 1990s, but honestly I had never heard of a "puffy taco" before.
When we visited this past week, my wife told me about Ray's and said we needed to go.
We stopped in on Wednesday night prior to checking into our hotel.
Parking was easy, and we were seated immediately upon walking in around 5:30pm. We looked at the menu, but it was clear we were getting puffy tacos.
I got the plate with two ground beef tacos with rice/beans, while my wife got two chicken fajita tacos without the rice/beans. What can I say? Absolutely fantastic.
Service was attentive and prompt. Will definitely try to visit next time I am in San Antonio.

This place was my first eating experience in Texas, and it did not disappoint at all.
Everything that we tried was great except the mozzarella sticks, but the marinara was killer, though the flavors were on point the service was great as well who knew adding a ton of salt and lemon to the opening of a beer could drastically change the flavor and drinkable nature of it.
Came for the puffy taco and devoured it so delicious and crispy, but the lemon pepper wings are killer and don't leave without trying the chopped hotdogs wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried with American cheese 😋.
It sounds simple, but it is a game changer.

Loved Ray’s! It’s a great atmosphere here, with large spaces and enough room for large groups. The prices were are super solid and very inexpensive for the quantities you get. The puffy tacos were so unique! I haven’t had them before so I was happy to try them. The carne guisada is the best one in my opinion, but all are very good! The chips and salsa they provide to start are very tasty , and a bit spicy (I loved the heat!). Cheers!
