The food is good.I loved the soup and salad combo. My husband enjoyed some ice coffee. Honestly, I thought the atmosphere inside would look different. It has curb appeal with the terrace and lively crowd but inside it looks like a hotel breakfast place in the middle of nowhere.Very dated, dark interior, uncomfy chairs. The food is good, though!
Made the trip to a nearby garden on a Saturday.Needed lunch so we drove into Mt.Vernon.Stumbled across the North Main Cafe and were glad we did.Breakfast only on Saturday and they stay open until 12:30 so we were just in time. Ordered at the counter, got our number and headed outside to the patio.Nice area with big umbrellas.Food came pretty quickly and we dove in. I got the Gold Rush Bowl and my wife got the Omlette. Both were tasty and hot when delivered. We really liked the downtown location and the ability to sit on a patio.
First the good: My husband's Reuben was mostly delicious. I ordered the daily special, which was a blueberry and peach spinach salad, with chicken and poppyseed dressing. For the most part, it was also very good. I like having all spinach, the dressing was good, and it was filling. Now the bad: When the Reuben was finished, there was almost 1/4 cup of Thousand Island dressing remaining on his plate. There was enough dressing for 3 sandwiches total, which is just too much for one sandwich and made a sloppy, soggy mess. For the salad, if you are advertising a special as a blueberry and peach salad, it would be beneficial to have peaches that are not hard as a brick and that have at least a modicum of sweetness. The rest of the salad was fine, but certainly wasn't helped by rock hard peaches. You would think that the person cutting the peach would have noticed the inedible quality of what they put on my salad, but apparently not. If I am ever in Mt.Vernon again, I would eat here, but I would definitely not order anything with seasonal fruit.
