I’ve been going to Luby’s since I was a kid with my mom.
That was the place we’d go if we wanted to splurge. In Austin, they closed the Luby’s closer to where I live so this one was about 15 min away.
I ordered the Manager’s Special which was Chicken Tetrazzini.
It came with 2 sides and a roll for $8!! What a deal.
I wanted more protein so I added a half roasted chicken for another $7.
What a delicious meal! I was so impressed at the quality and taste of food and their service is always impeccable.
The waitress was very attentive and sweet.
In addition, they spruced up their dining room (albeit on a budget) - they added really pretty hanging lights all over the ceiling.
It hides the ugly tile ceiling and fluorescent light fixtures which was great. I cannot wait to revisit.
I had such a great family meal there.

Not sure why people hate on this place.
You ain’t getting fine dining for $9 😂.
It’s a cafeteria style restaurant with a lot of options, plenty of seating, very good prices.
When you walk in, you see so much fresh food, it feels homey, everything looks and smells good.
You line up, grab a tray and utensils.
Tell the staff what you want and your sides, grab your drinks and condiments, pay, sit down and eat.
It is very full during lunch time, so schedule accordingly.
I got the fried fish with the creamed spinach and mash potato and gravy, I also grabbed two jalapeños for additional charge.
The food tastes good, it’s a very good portion size.
I felt satisfied after my meal and would like to try different things next time! Total came out to be $10.58.
I don’t think you have to tip but you can since they clean up.

Wow! I believe it’s been decades since I’ve had Luby’s, and over the years I’ve been itching to try a location not too far from our house.
Luby’s is full of nostalgia for me since my family visited one many times when I was a kid.
I ordered the fried fish, mac & cheese, fried ocra, and garlic bread.
It was all wonderfully mediocre partly because we went when there was no line.
I think Luby’s is best when there’s a pretty packed house and the food is constantly getting refreshed.
