We visited Home Grown Kitchen because the breakfast at our hotel was $13 for donuts and coffee. So happy we skipped the hotel options and visited Home Grown! We had Dre as our server and she was delightful and knowledgeable of the menu when we had questions! The atmosphere is beautiful and was the perfect quick, and delicious place to eat! My husband got the biscuits and gravy- which I stole several forks fulls from him because the biscuits melted in the mouth and had great flavor.I got the avocado and turkey egg breakfast sandwich and an iced mocha coffee- which was delicious! Clean bathrooms too! We hope we can stop back in someday!
Was not wowed.Honestly confused on why it has 4.7 stars. Positives: we were seated really quickly (because we sat at the bar), our waitress was very attentive, the lemon pop tart was good, the English muffin was really fluffy, food comes out really fast Not so positives: the food is not worth the hype. The scrambled eggs and sausage pattys were tough and maybe cooked in coconut oil? The eggs Benedict hollandaise tasted like American cheese and the Turkey was really dry.Our coffee was really sweet. Overall, I wouldn’t wait an hour for this.I think you should explore other brunch options in Des Moines.
We just heard about Homegrown and went for brunch on our anniversary. It did not disappoint! We waited about thirty minutes on a busy Saturday morning. After being seated, we were greeted promptly by Jessica who helped us navigate a menu full of appealing choices. On her recommendation, we chose the Salsa Verde Pork.We were intrigued by two seasonal dishes, Limoncello French Toast and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. No problem said Jessica. We added a slice of French toast and pancake as a side for a reasonable price. While we waited for our order, Jessica dropped off a homemade lemon pop tart.Wow! Flaky warm pastry filled with lemon curd filling and topped with just the right amount of frosting. The Salsa Verde Pork was delicious with tender shredded pork resting on rosemary potatoes in a tangy Verde salsa with just the right amount of heat.It was topped with two perfectly cooked cage free eggs. The pancake was light and fluffy, not dense and chewy. It was drizzled with a house made lemon curd. The Limoncello French Toast was the star, made with lemon pound cake and served with a drizzle of lemon curd and served with vanilla bean crema. The food was fantastic and the service by Jessica was even better.Homegrown is our new favorite brunch spot!
