Dashi is a must try! If you like food packed with flavor, this is the perfect spot! Everything was delicious! We tried ● Purple Moon Cocktail, and the ube soaked lotus root garnish was so yummy! ● The Tangy Sesame Pork Ribs were super tender and we loved the flavor! ● The Crispy, Spicy, and Savory Chicken was the quintessential Sichuan flavor palette and was absolutely delicious! ● The Pork Dumplings were wonderfully cooked, and my 3 year old ate a whole order! ● We got the Boujee Egg Drop Soup for the table, and this was amazing as well as such an amazing deal for the price! ● Also tried the Zensai Cocktail, which is hot jasmine tea, honey, and Ming River Baijiu and was the perfect mixture of hot tea and a little kick! Wonderfully smooth! ● Also had the Chicken fried noodles and we all really enjoyed the simplicity and perfect flavors. Such a wonderful meal with family and friends! The portions are perfect for sharing and the staff was friendly and answered any questions we had!
Sichuan food is one of my favorite cuisines, and it has been hard to find great places since moving to Texas, but this restaurant definitely exceeded my expectations! We came here for dinner on a weeknight, so it was not particularly crowded. It had a welcoming interior, and servers were friendly and very helpful given it was our first time. We got the green beans, which were served in a savory, spicy aromatic sauce with a perfectly cooked texture to the green beans.Exactly the way I enjoy them! We also got a crispy fried dry tofu dish, served with white rice, which was also quite good.It had a strong sichuan pepper corn component, and served with some onions. The tofu was definitely on the crispy side.Dish was great as is, though I wouldn't mind an alternative that is a bit less flash fried. I also have celiac (strict gluten-free), and I'm vegetarian, and had a great time dining here. For celiac, they were aware of cross contamination protocols, and they also had a separate menu available for gluten free folk, which was really appreciated! I just really really wish they had a gluten-free mapo tofu as it is one of my favorite dishes, as the online menu was incorrect in listing the "mama chen's tofu" as GF.I understand this though as it is very difficult to find gluten-free doubanjiang. The only strange thing about the restaurant is that the vibes of the decor, demeanor of staff, and the name itself "Dashi" (which is Japanese, not Chinese), made me think it would be a bit of a strange Asian fusion restaurant. However, I was glad to find the menu and flavors definitely felt authentic and importantly, delicious. I was just visiting San Antonio briefly, but I wish they would open a location in Houston as well as I would definitely become a regular!
We wanted to have spicy food so we decided to try Dashi's Chinese Kitchen. Known for their Szechuan style cuisine. Late night dinner so not crowded as we heard it could be. Modern trendy atmosphere & the music enhanced the vibe. Food is fresh. Started with Crispy dumplings- crunchy & yummy, love the sauce. Then we shared : Savory Kung Pao chicken and the signature stir fried "Double Trouble" flavorful & tender chunks of ribeye-stir fried with onions ,red bell pepper & serrano peppers. Delish green beans - well seasoned. Jasmine Rice.Large portions. Cool bar. Full bar.Craft cocktails, great selection of Wine and Beer .Happy Hour specials on drinks & bites.Servers were incredible and very knowledgeable about the menu.Recommend reservations. Check their calendar before going without reservations- they hold private events. Definitely excited for our next visit!
