We visited Calliope during Happy Hour because we had a five-year-old with us, and it was the end of a great downtown day in Chattanooga.
The restaurant is beautiful and the wait staff was brimming with enthusiasm and ideas for our meal.
We ordered five dishes and they were served with two kinds of pita: mushrooms, whipped feta, hummus, shrimp and potatoes.
Honestly every dish exceeded our expectations.
The Baby was well behaved so we were free to leisurely enjoy our feast.
Prices for the Happy Hour menu make dining early an affordable treat at Calliope.
Even though we live a couple of hours away, we are making plans to go back and try the dinner menu.

Thank you, Sherry, for the kind review! We love having guests of all ages, including the little ones.
Please visit us again soon.

Amazing experience! Our meal started off with the best pita I’ve ever had in my life, alongside amazing hummus, pickled veggies, and olives.
Falafel was another best I’ve ever had, and the lamb and chicken dishes were super flavorful with spectacular presentation.
Beautiful building alongside a great atmosphere make for an amazing dining experience!

In a word: pretentious. In many words… Restructuring and reinventing classic dishes that have been perfected over 500-700 and in some cases thousands of years is at best a waste of time and at worst misguided arrogance.
This is the food of the people.
There is no need or room for “I have an idea” here. Presentation was nice, but didn’t make the food taste right. I have had this place on my list to try for a long time, and left feeling nothing but disappointed and hungry. Hummus: 6/10 - lacked depth.
Couldn’t taste anything but sesame paste and olive oil. Labneh: she said it was the best thing she had Whipped feta: she said it was fine Falafel: 2/10 - it was sweet.
The ancestors are turning in their graves. Fattoush: 2/10 - chop it up.
TF am I gonna do with 3 fully intact romaine leaves? Leave the seeds at home.
Just serve a normal fattoush.
I’m begging you. Spring chicken: 5/10 - she said it was fine.
Took about 1 hour to get it.
By then we were underwhelmed and ready to leave. Potatoes: 8/10 - best execution

Justin, Thank you for the feedback. To address your initial thoughts, we define our food as “Modern Levantine” for a reason as we want to set that expectation. To say how cuisine should be is, frankly, a limited point of view.
The food that comes out of a kitchen in any type of cuisine is a reflection of the stories and people making the food.
Some choose to be more traditional, some choose their own take.
For example, our take on falafel, as you described would make our ancestors turn in their grave, has a story and we tell it on a plate.
As for your experience, we are glad you were able to find some dishes that you enjoyed and we regret that you were disappointed in others.
Thank you for visiting.
