Awesome little dive bar, very quaint atmosphere but wow the sandwiches were killer.Stellar local vibes, everyone was chill and friendly.Upset I've been living right next to it all this time without stopping by. Fried banana peppers ruled, way better than fried pickles
Great little hole in the wall place.Had been many years since last visit, and although there had been changes such as closing off the side room and bringing in the vintage bar from Sadlack's, the grill and overall feel has definitely aged well.Really enjoyed the 'back stage' covered patio area out back; the musical trio this evening were amazing. The cafe staff and patrons were friendly, food tasty with good portions and fair prices, and over all had a really enjoyable time.Highly recommend.
I know things are coming back to life. With great hopes I ventured out after long time in this cafe with four plus ratings. Now I am giving it only three, one is for grace as things come back to normal.Music was good.Coffee filled and we were promptly forgotten, half an hour later came to take the order , half an hour later, the order appeared sans cheese and condiments as asked for.Servers were rushed, nonchalant and bonding with familiar customers and leaving newcomers alone. Will not recommend and food is tasty even if tots were bitter maybe because of reused cooking oil.Hopefully things get better with management showing some genuine post pandemic almost world, effort and a Ted Talk Session and owner is vehemently denying about coffee, when it’s literally posted here and it was recorded music, I’ll definitely try again and that’s called grace ❤️
Owner response
My original reply: ***We don't serve coffee and are not doing live music yet, so this looks like a fake review. Try again sometime.*** Update 6/1: Hi Sue, this is Alex, one of the owners. I apologize for my terse response to your original review. We frequently get "spam" fake reviews here and I read this one too hastily as being one of those. The word "cafe" in our name leads people -- and spam bots -- to assume we serve mainly coffee drinks, so our fake reviews often mention coffee. But, as you pointed out, for our in-person visitors, we will gladly make a fresh pot of drip coffee, as I expect you had that evening. I also am sorry that you had a bad overall experience at the Berkeley. I've tried to figure out when you stopped by, and I think it was around 8 to 9 pm on Saturday, May 15. I know things sometimes get hectic on busy nights, but the staff really need to be paying better attention to all the customers, not just the regulars. If you had brought your issue to someone at the time, they would have quickly corrected the mistakes. We will remind them to pay more attention to the tables and to ensure the orders are correct before they walk away. From looking through our system, I think I have figured out which transaction was yours, but if you email me directly at slxberkeley @ gmail.com, I can give you a refund. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you'll give us another try sometime.
