Easily made online reservations here for Mother's Day breakfast, and was glad I did! This is a great, long-standing spot on North Avenue with on-site parking, restaurant, small market, and deli.Admittedly, though from the area, I forgot how wonderful this place is.The dining area is a nice size, and the food is absolutely amazing. Our server was attentive and quick, and our food came out very timely. We all ordered a Bloody Mary to start, but I asked that mine be made spicy.Usually, when I do this anywhere, I am inevitably disappointed. However, they made it perfectly and not overwhelmingly spicy. We ordered the Mexican quiche, blueberry buttermilk pancakes and the lemon ricotta pancakes. All were delicious! The Mexican quiche was light and airy, the potatoes well seasoned and the side fruit very fresh. The buttermilk pancakes were light and fluffy, made with fresh, nicely sized blueberries. The lemon ricotta pancakes were very tasty, with the ricotta adding a slight sweetness to the pancakes that paired well with the blueberry syrup.Beans and Barley has been a long-time east side staple, and there's no doubt why.Great food, great service, and a great location make this a great gem to try out and revisit.
This restaurant used to be better years ago.I believe the service and food quality have declined over the years, unfortunately. The restaurant holds a lot of nastalgia, as I believe it's one of the first vegan restaurants in the state. The menu offers many organic and vegan options.I did notice some meat selections as well. They offer a dozen unique salad options, and they also have a kids menu. The drinks include fresh juices, smoothies, alcoholic beverages, and coffee options. All dishes are made fresh to order with homemade scratch ingredients. The location is great with ample street parking available. The ambiance is what I like the most. The restaurant is bright 🌞 and welcoming! It it has a vast amount of natural lighting, which comes through from its huge beautiful window pains and skylights. The restaurant has many live plants as decor, which I enjoy as well.Attached to the restaurant seating area, there is a store and deli. Overall, if you're in the area, it's worth the stop.
It was my first time attempting to eat here.We came in at 700p.They close at 800p.We were seated. The server introduced themselves and didn't come back for over 15 minutes. The person I was with was hungry so we left. The menu looks great.Service was off.
