My husband and I were so excited to try Waldo Thai, but I was disappointed.
The food is decent, but the staff made us feel like we were an inconvenience.
We arrived right when they opened at 4:30p.
The host immediately asked if we had a reservation and looked at us like we were crazy that we didn’t, which I found odd since the place was completely empty.
It remained fairly empty while we dined.
He sat us at a bar table, which was not a problem, but the judgment wasn’t warranted - we told him this was our first time and we were excited, yet there was ZERO attempt to make us feel welcome.
In fact, it was the exact opposite. I ordered a vegetarian curry which was mediocre at best, but I asked for it spicy.
The waitress immediately said “we don’t make any modifications to any of our dishes” instead of politely saying “oh, we prefer to let our guests add the spice level they like.” She brought me some spices to add but nothing reminiscent of my preference, even when I added EVERYTHING she brought. Not worth a $70 tab. I might be willing to give it another shot, but please don’t treat your guests like we are a bother.
I’ve had much better experiences elsewhere in KC.

The food here was definitely delicious, I had the Tom yum soup and the pumpkin coconut curry with braised beef.
However, for an entree to be $32, not a large portion and come with one small bowl of rice is reaching.
That’s very much fine dining prices and it’s more expensive than most places in Kansas City.
On a positive note, the roasted coconut fan dessert was amazing and appropriately priced. Our server was also very sweet and friendly and we loved the service.
