We were wondering the streets for dinner and walked in here to check out the menu. The smell of the restaurant made us stay.We were greeted, and then figured out our order on the kiosk. Our food took no time at all the make and they were slammed with take out - that’s how we knew we picked a good spot! I had the Mac and cheese grilled cheese and it’s worth getting again. The strawberry milkshake was also really good! This is great drunken food for sure.

We went to The Melt after hitting a couple of the Gaslamp happy hours because we were starving. The service was extremely friendly and they have a good size menu with various burgers, chicken sandwiches and impossible burgers as well as a variety of sides. We ordered a BBQ burger, a Spicy Mission Burger and a Spicy Mission Chicken sandwich along with some fries. This is not a sit down restaurant so you place your order and sit down to wait for your pager to go off and go pick it up. The atmosphere is really bright and it was super clean when we visited. Overall we were really impressed with the level of service they provided for basically what is an upscale fast food type of restaurant. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The melt burgers and chicken sandwich were good = not huge portions but they were tasty and it did the trick for us. Are there better burgers in San Diego? Absolutely. Are the better burgers as convenient to get to when you are already in the Gaslamp district? Probably not.So it’s worth it if you’re hungry and don’t want to drive somewhere else.

Personally, to find a late night/early morning fix in Gaslamp Quarters after a whole night of drinking is not very easy, I am not talking about just grabbing a dry old piece of pizza for $9 or a tiny $17 hoagie or crepes here. While I don't think the Melt offers the meltiest burgers that I have ever tried but it is definitely up there. Most importantly they use fresh ingredients without any additives, and you can surely taste it in the food. The meat is lean, not the fatty patties from Shake Shack, and your can customize everything. The price points are actually very good and they are opened until 3am. If you are not familiar with the area or first time visiting, this is a good all day option.
