My friend, partner and I were on our way back to Vancouver and decided to go check out the The Boat after a 3-day trip to Seattle/Portland. The Boat is located on the corner of Rainier Ave S.and S.Jackson St, you can’t miss it because the restaurant is the shape of a boat.So unique! We got the following items: 🍗- Cơm Gà Mắm Tỏi (Garlic Chicken with Rice) 🍗 - Mì Trộn (Garlic Chicken with Dry Egg Noodle) 🧇 - Bánh Kẹp Lá Dứa (Pandan Waffles) 🧇 - Bánh Kẹp Chuối (Banana Waffles) 🍸- Phin-Tini (Vietnamese Coffee with Vodka) 🍹- Trà Đá Lá Dứa (Pandan Iced Tea) The Garlic Chicken was cooked to perfection, so crispy and juicy! The Chrysanthemum Salad and Chicken Broth nicely complimented the Chicken! The waffles were also really good, we especially enjoyed the Pandan waffles for dessert. It came with a nice salty coconut whip cream that the restaurant makes in house. Lastly, the Phin-Tini was delicious and Pandan Iced Tea was so refreshing to have! I probably enjoyed the Phin-Tini more than an Expresso Martini. It was just so flavourful and also I just love Vietnamese coffee! Definitely will have to come back again when we’re in Seattle again.
The venue is welcoming, cozy and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered garlic chicken with rice, noodle soup and dry noodles. They were all really good, though I would probably avoid the noodle soup next time as the soup was bland. The chicken was well fried and moist and you definitely must try their chili sauce. The pandan ice tea was underwhelming.
The Boat shares the same parking lot as Pho Bac.In fact, m my waiter shared with me that the owners of each are brothers. The main reason to eat here is for the garlic chicken and rice. The Boat is a fine example of a doing few things very well. The menu is small, with only noodles and a waffle dessert as additional options. And yet the chicken is flavorful and well prepared. The waffles are accompanied by whipped salted coconut, and is delicious and fun to eat. The dining room is small and cozy.So be prepared to wait for a table when you arrive, because The Boat seems to be a popular destination. However don't let that stop you - this place is worth the wait.
