First time trying this place. The atmosphere and service were on point but my albondiga soup was, sadly, the worst I've ever had. Extremely tough and dense with zero flavor. Broth tasted like water. I ordered a side of rice, added to my soup with my whole cup of salsa and lots of salt to make it edible. I might go back again to try fajitas. I saw it at a table next to me and looked good.
Hits the spot. Uncomplicated, non-fancy, GREAT Mexican food.Service is relatively quick, and friendly.Prices are good. As I sat and looked across the restaurant I saw a diverse group of people with one thing in common. They were all smiling 😊.It's not the atmosphere or the decor, it's the food. It's nice to sit, really relax, and enjoy a great meal at an unrushed pace. Remember, you can order ahead for takeout if there's someplace else you have to be.Showing up with some Sofia's Mexican food is like bringing comfort home.
TLDR: This is a great place for bland type Mexican food. Not recommended if you actually want spicy Mexican cuisine Entire review - Just moved to this area of the valley and people recommended this place. It should have been a sign when we walked in and all 15-20 customers were Caucasian people. The food is good - for someone with no taste.Nothing, not even the salsa had flavours. The spicy - seemed like a non-chunky version of the regular. The chicken flautas - the chicken was dry, no seasoning or flavour, and packed in that when you took a bite it came out in a chunk.I was trying to soak them in the salsa for moisture - not flavour cause I was already salting the salsa to get some taste out of it. The beef tacos - same thing for the beef.No flavour and overly packed.Went through a bowl of the bland salsa just to get through. The bean tostada - standard retired beans with toppings. The service was ok to start but then as the meal went on we seemed to get ignored.Even waiting for a check we got walked by a few times.Only checked on once and no water refills. *Update after their response to remove the part about an interaction between a customer and their staff - and to add that apparently Sonoran Mexican food is meant to taste like this and not have flavours.
Owner response
As we typically appreciate all reviews, even negative ones, I can say this is a review that is not.First of all, the racially charged comments can be done without.Second, our food is 100% authentic Sonoran Mexican, now if this is something you are unfamiliar with, then that can explain your flavor comments. It is too bad you did not enjoy your meal. Update: At no time were you asked to remove an interaction between customer and staff, secondly, at no time was it said Sonoran Mexican food has no flavor, however it is not inherently as spicy as southern Mexican Cuisine. If spicy Mexican food is what you like and are used to, then by all means have that, but that is no need to leave the type of review you did, and please if you know better than the Sonoran Mexicans that created the menu and recipes, then by all means I am all ears.
