Moko is my safe space for sushi.Casual and homey and delicious.Owners are sooo friendly, sushi is good quality and great value, restaurant itself is so cozy for eating in, take out is always super reliable! My favorites are the sushi regular combo or deluxe, southie roll, hamachi maki, and ikura sushi.
I love Moko! While it is not actually a hidden gem (they are consistently busy with takeout orders) the real gem is their restaurant itself! You can easily grab a table most nights and get to enjoy their delicious food and awesome wait staff. They always play good music as well! Their new truffle toro roll (pictured) is amazing and hopefully will stick around on their menu for a long time.Always a 10/10 at Moko.
It was late, just arrived after a long drive to Boston with my daughter and both of us wanted something healthy to eat before bed. We arrived an hour before close.Service was attentive and caring.Despite the late hour a few other patrons were enjoying the food and atmosphere as well. Moko is easy to find as it is right on the corner. The place is smallish (intimate some would say).It is appropriately furnished and does not feel cramped. There are two small bars, one for sushi, the other for cocktails. If you are into sports, there are 2 large televisions to catch your eye. But the real draw is the food.I did not have high expectations and was happily surprised how good the food was! I had the sashimi regular while my daughter had the udon. The sashimi was preceded by miso soup and that was when I knew we were in for a treat. It was so yummy! Really, if all I wanted was that, I would go to Moko to get it.And the sashimi was fantastic as was its presentation. The only thing missing were the leaves, but they are probably hard to get here. My daughter had the udon, which took a minute to arrive. But when we saw the bowl we understood why.It was larger than expected, artistically prepared, and smelled fantastic.Although she was unable to consume it all, she reported that it was 'tasty! ' I did have a sip at the end of the meal and can say the broth was on par with the miso soup.Yummy! So would I recommend this place to a hungry, tired traveler? A resounding Yes!
