Matt's Big Breakfast

We arrived at the (campus?) location right as the door opened, and really glad we did.
Before we got our meals there was a wiring line for seats.
We had the pork chop meal (chop and chick), the (sandwich) and the special of the day a grilled pepper scramble.
All three of us were very happy with the meals.
Quick friendly service, large portions and the had rye bread for my buddy (can't find that everywhere).
I will absolutely be returning to this (at one or the other of the locations).

It was good.
Pricey I thought but every breakfast place has gone up crazy prices lately.
Hard to justify not just buying your own eggs and bacon for home.
Nice place, super friendly.
Parking a little inconvenient, not their fault.
Not a lot of variety for the breakfast menu, I was expecting more diner type variety.
But what we got was delicious.

This food is terrible and the service is nonexistent.
If all you want is a lot of something that’s terrible, then maybe you would be happy here.
If you like extremely bland food and no real choices to add additional flavor or spice yourself, then maybe you would be happy here. My friend ordered a scrambled egg thing that even with the puny amount of peppers that they added to it was so bland she wanted salsa or something to give it a little flavor.
The only salsa they offered was a mild green tomatillo.
There was no seasoning to her dish.
We think this restaurant is designed for really hungry, really old people with delicate palates.
The hashbrowns were properly crisp on the outside, but you could tell by the grayish color of the potatoes, that weren’t crisp, that they hadn’t been properly rinsed to get all the starch off of them before they were cooked. My burrito was terrible.
Once again, so incredibly bland all you tasted was the canned pinto beans that make up half of the burrito.
I asked for salsa and Tabasco only to be told the only salsa they have was the green tomatillo on the plate and the only hot sauce they had was Texas Pete’s.
I know some people like that mild sauce.
But I like something with a little kick.
How hard is it to find Tabasco? It seems like every restaurant that is operating as cheaply as possible serves only Texas Pete.
I could be wrong, but the distributor is probably giving these restaurants an extremely cheap price on its product if they promise not to offer anything else.
That distributor must really be giving the stuff away to keep other better hot sauces off the table.
Back to the burrito.
Yes, it was huge, but a meal should be more than quantity.
As I stated half of this burrito is nothing more than unflavored canned pinto beans.
The filling wasn’t even mixed.
You would hit one chunk of the burrito that was essentially a full scrambled egg then there would be nothing but a mass of pinto beans with a few tiny specks of chorizo, and then you’d hit another full scrambled egg block.
I almost laughed as I cut into the burrito and realized they had used such a large tortilla that you had 1/4-1/2 inch of just rolled up tortilla that made this burrito look much bigger.
But it was just rolled raw tortilla, I’m sure you’re not surprised that the bathrooms were a mess as well.
Oh, and regarding the bathrooms if each bathroom is a single toilet with a locking door why the hell do you bother with putting a gender label on them so one is men and one women? When I needed the restroom, the men’s room was locked, in use.
The women’s restroom was unlocked and open.
I could see it was a single seat.
Which meant there was no way I was gonna wait in line to relieve myself in the “properly gender labeled” facilities.
remove the pointless gender labels. The place is just generally dirty.
The entire time that we were in this restaurant there were dirty napkins on the floor around the tables And after 40+ times servers walked by these napkins not one of them thought they should pick up the trash.
We stacked our dishes on top of each other and put napkins on top of them signaling we were done, and no one had any interest in removing those dishes until we stood up from the table.
Then they swept in and wiped it down instantly, so they could let another group sit down and enjoy a lousy, flavorless breakfast. I have lived in Arizona more than 40 years.
I have been told you have to go to Matt’s Big Breakfast for decades.
This was my first and last visit.
Go somewhere else, anywhere else.
