We were planning to just grab a drink and then go somewhere else for dinner, but the menu here looked better than the one that was recommended. We shared the chicken sandwich and the poutine.I gave them 4 stars for food because the poutine was okay, although I wish it had more meat on it.The chicken sandwich was very good, though.Loved the vibe and atmosphere here.
Citizen Cider is a good restaurant close to downtown Burlington, Vermont - not the best restaurant in the city, but a good one if you’re craving gastropub-y food! There are a lot of great gluten-free options which is a massive benefit to this place. We got a couple of different non-alcoholic drinks made with their All Times drinks (which were very good), the fried artichokes, Seoul tots, Pine St.poutine, fried Brussels sprouts, and the Citizen smash burger - literally all of that was gluten-free, believe it or not! We had mixed opinions about a couple of dishes, but we did really enjoy the Pine St.poutine, fried artichokes, and fried Brussels sprouts.Maybe skip the burger we got - that’s my only suggestion. All in all, this was a good place with great service and definitely one we would go to again if we were craving the type of food we got.You will probably enjoy it!
Can’t believe that a Vermont company puts out a product in an aluminum can that isn’t returnable!!!! We are a green state!! We like the product but won’t buy it at the stores!! UPDATE to your comment!! That was a very long poor excuse!! I know that it’s possible to have a 5 cent can return in VT on cider because we drink Mac&Maple hard cider from Champlain orchards and their cans are returnable.Just saying you’re a VT company in a green state so you should care about the environment a little more. You’re producing a lot of cans that end up in the landfill.!! Make a call to Champlain orchards and find out how they changed VT legislation to have their cans returnable.
Owner response
Hi again David.I'm sorry if my response was not clear. We care very much about our environmental impact. The aluminum cans we use are absolutely recyclable. We hope that people are recycling our cans and understand the confusion at the redemption centers.Good news, the bill is set to change in 2025 and when it does, we will change our packaging to reflect this change in VT redemption law.I am not sure why Champlain Orchards has the VT redemption on their can; we will reach out. Hi David.Appreciate your comment. You know it is actually a Vermont state law that cider is exempt from the can and bottle deposit. The law actually almost got changed this year, but it did not pass. This means that our cans can't be brought to a redemption center, however, they are of course still recyclable.Feel free to pass on any further questions to your local state representative. We share your frustration.
