Cafe Rio has been one of my go to places for a fresh Mexican experience for years.
However, my last couple of visits, there has been nothing fresh about their food.
Their quality control for in person dining as well as take out dining has gone way downhill over the past little while.
I would say I eat here 2-4 times per month.
The past two times have been sub par to say the least.
The protein I like the most is their grilled chicken (which they charge extra for) and it has lately been dry as leather. This last visit I ordered to go.
I ordered grilled chicken enchilada’s and the chicken was again very dry.
The enchiladas are served with rice and beans.
I ordered the pinto beans which were obviously the bottom of the pan and seemed to have been sitting for quite some time.
The rice was in similar if not worst condition.
It was crunchy… I don’t know about you, but I don’t like crunchy rice.
Nothing fresh about it. I also ordered chips with Queso dip.
The container of Queso was only filled 2/3 full.
This made me feel even more like quality control is non existent. Cafe Rio, I really love your food.
Please do better.

Every single time we’ve ordered takeout from this location, it has been wrong.
Decided to give them another shot and tonight’s salad order had a flour (vs corn) tortilla.
This was for someone who can’t have gluten.
Additionally it was missing the guacamole and jalapeños that were listed on the order.
Of the food that was right, it was decent.
But if they can’t execute takeout properly, they shouldn’t offer it.
Super disappointing.

Was glad to find a Cafe Rio in Sugar House.
The food and service was great, but it was rather cold and dark inside.
