Don't know about the food or atmosphere.
My first time to this restaurant and not a good one.
Went to order a shake through the drive through.
I had a simple request to add either chocolate or fudge sauce and was told they don't have any.
So I asked if they had chocolate chips they could put on there.
The woman taking my order didn't understand me.
So I told her I would just come inside to order.
I decided to leave instead if they can't understand a simple request then why go in.

Stopped by Steak and Shake in Hamburg early afternoon.
Not too busy.
ALL orders are done on the kiosk now.
Which is very confusing if you aren't used to ordering...especially if you want to add a milkshake to your meal (instead of soda).
Very helpful server showed me how to accommodate my order.
Tasty double cheeseburger and shoestring fries.
Great strawberry milkshake.

Update: I ate inside recently and was underwhelmed.
They only have kiosks now so you can't order from an actual person.
To me their brand reads old school diner and kiosk only customer service makes no sense.
Order at the kiosk and pick up when then order is called.
No human interaction.
I am a fan of kiosk ordering but I would like the option to order from a person.
Our drink/shakes came out well after we received our meal.
Also, the employee that was wiping down tables during our recent visit showed too much skin in an area you don't want to see while eating. Previous: Steak n Shake is a non fast food restaurant with a window.
I don't expect fast service but the food is typically really good.
I love their shoe string fries, especially when they are covered with cheese.
Burgers are good quality and flavorful.
