Review of DoubleCut Steakhouse – New Year’s Eve Disaster
I recently visited DoubleCut Steakhouse for what was meant to be a special New Year’s Eve dinner, but I left deeply disappointed and frustrated. This was my first visit—and quite possibly my last—to this purportedly upscale, very expensive restaurant.
Let me start by saying the atmosphere was anything but “upscale.” There was no dress code
The problems escalated when it came to the food. We ordered a $69 porterhouse steak to share, only to be told they were out of that cut. The waiter then tried to upsell us a $200 steak, which I politely declined. Instead, I settled for two filet mignons at $58 each—bringing the total to $120, a $51 increase from my original choice of steak. Clearly, this was a bait-and-switch tactic.
To make matters worse, my date ordered a $10 baked potato, but was then told they were out of baked potatoes and sold us $15 mashed potatoes as a replacement. This felt like another attempt to overcharge customers without offering value.
The final straw came at the end of the meal when an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill—without any prior notification. This was especially frustrating because their website explicitly states that the gratuity is only added for parties of six or more. We were a party of two. As a result, I ended up tipping nearly 20% on top of that, which amounted to an additional $66.
Overall, DoubleCut Steakhouse is an unscrupulous establishment that I would not recommend to anyone. The overpriced food, deceptive tactics, and lack of proper service made for a thoroughly disappointing evening. I’ll be steering clear of this place in the future, and I’ll be warning others to do the same.
